My Story

My love of yoga started as a teenager when, after reading Aldous Huxley's novel 'Island', I took a meditation tape out from the local library, the meditation led onto a me finding a yoga class and starting to have a physical yoga asana practice. At this age practicing yoga brought me the understanding that I could take a breath and pause before reacting to situations, this was a revelation and incredibly useful!
Yoga has continued to accompany me through my life. I attended a variety of classes, including pregnancy and baby yoga, and had a home yoga practice. I qualified as a primary school teacher and became very interested in helping children to develop their emotional intelligence and resilience, again, yoga seemed to show the way forward. I trained as a children's yoga teacher and started to teach child and family yoga in my own school, other schools and nurseries. I also set up after school yoga clubs. I had lots of good feedback from parents who also asked if I did an adult class. I'd been thinking of extending my training to teaching adults and had already completed British Wheel of Yoga Foundation 1 course with Hazel Faithful to deepen my own understanding of yoga. Encouraged, I signed up to teacher training with Wendy Teasdill and loved it right from the start, my teacher was inspiring and deeply knowledgeable and the people I trained with were great too. I was very proud to qualify as a yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga and to start my own classes. I have now been loving teaching adults and children's yoga for over 10 years, there is always something new to learn and to teach. I am very thankful for the opportunity to share yoga with others.
What did yoga ever do for me?
My Yoga practice brings me calm and a deep sense of connection to myself, others and the world. It gives me understanding of my physical body and keeps my body strong, flexible and balanced. It helps calm my 'monkey mind' and shifts me from doing to being. I love practicing yoga and enjoy being able to share its subtle power and positive benefits.
